This book is absolutely precious. From the beginning we see Marlene’s struggle through a great combination of writing AND art.
Ortega’s writing evokes emotion (my heart was breaking for Marlene at the end of this first look!) and Bousamra’s art shows the beauty in all hair types- wonderful detail work!
Would love to see more of Marlene’s story and find out if her family can embrace her just the way she is.
