I did not enjoy 95% of this book. I put Frankly in Love on my To Read list when it first appeared on Bookish First. Then when I saw the little commercial that Penguin Teen had created for it, I just HAD to read it RIGHT AWAY. I went and downloaded the audiobook within 5 minutes of seeing that advertisement-- so good job Penguin Teen! I think it was the song choice-- I am still obsessed with the song, even though I did not enjoy the book.

Overall, I am finding it hard to specifically describe what I did not enjoy about this book... overall I felt like the concept had way more potential and that it could have been executed better. There were a couple of specific plot decisions that really annoyed me. I do not want to list specifics here because of spoilers... let's just say they have to do with how Frank decided to handle essentially every decision related to Brit and Joy, and even how he treated Q in some situations. I typically enjoy "quirky" characters, but there was something about Frank's character that just bothered me.

I felt like the book did a great job expressing the challenges that Frank faced as a child of immigrants. While a "silly" YA Rom-Com, it did cover some major issues not typically covered in YA romance novels (racism... struggle with ethnic identity... etc) in a very successful way. And I really enjoyed the ending- I felt like that was perfection... but everything leading up to the ending was just sort of stupid.
