Frankly in Love is a solid YA contemporary romance book. It has an interesting enough plot line and I can see how some teenagers could relate to and enjoy reading this book.

I really liked seeing the parent-child relationships in the story and the discussion of race, culture, and stereotypes. I thought those were really important issues to include and the relationships between characters, whether they be family, romantic, or friendships, were pretty sweet.

Ultimately, however, the book fell flat for me. I found it hard to get into from the start as I thought the pacing was too slow and the characters didn’t feel fully fleshed out. The plot was a bit confusing and chaotic, while also — to be Frank (no pun intended) — a bit boring.

I also hated the use of the cheating trope. I don’t understand why that had to be incorporated when it was completely unnecessary and only hindered my perspective of the characters and the story.

Overall, I’d say the book was a good read, but it had some issue and just wasn’t for me.
