Frankly, I am in love with Frankly in Love by own voices author David Yoon. Was that corny? Already said? Not sure, but I’m leaving it. Because its true. This is a debut novel for the author but it feels like I’ve been reading him forever. The book has a lot of heart and it is easy to see that the author poured his into it. This is beautiful tale of Frank Li, his first love, and growing up Korean in Southern California. As the child of immigrants, Frank is trying to find his place when it feels like he’s split in two. I loved the well developed characters and think maybe I have a crush on Frank? The story made me laugh and it made me cry. It had all the great components of a coming of age YA novel, humor, best friends, first love, and thought provoking issues like racism.
And can we talk about this cover? The typography is simple yet the intricate paper cut colors takes away that simplicity and makes it beautifully detailed. Like I keep touching to see if its real.
