I had high hopes for this book and I was let down. Where do I begin....The character development was just not there. Frank Li was very two dimensional. I understand that we as readers needed to get a sense of the main character having to navigate between being Korean and American, but the story never got beyond that. when we find out about the dad having cancer I felt nothing and usually in stories I connect to things like this and it felt weak and forced...like hey let me throw this in here to tug at your heart strings, but sadly it fell flat. The Q storyline....super smart black male, secretly in the closet....been there done that. I guess I expected more from this book based upon the books that his wife wrote and that was probably unfair to judge this based upon her writing. This wasn't the worst book I read this year, but I won't be rereading. Glad I borrowed it from the library and didn't buy it.
