“We all just want to love who we want to love.” - Frankly in Love. Except Frank Li is Korean-American and his parents expect him to date someone just like him.

This contemporary YA book hits all the marks for me: diverse characters who deal with issues such as race, belonging, class, finding love, as well as the stress of SATs and getting into college. David Yoon’s debut is funny, lovely, and even a bit nerdy (eg dungeons and dragons, the APEYs). I loved this group of teens and the book is quite moving towards the end.

Most of the YA I read focuses on women (Poet X, Fire on High) so it was nice to see the male perspective of this age for a change. If you’re looking for a fun read, Frankly in Love is a winner!
