I truly like the author's style of writing and I will read more books of his. This book introduced me to this author. It's intelligent without assuming that the reader is not as some other books have tended to do with unnecessary explanations. The cultural lesson in this book does have appropriate detail to allow the reader to not only understand traditions, but why they are traditions in the first place. The big picture is painted, not the narrow view.
The plot moved a bit slowly for me, but this is not an action story and life is not always go, go, go, so this is appropriate. The life lesson about who the lead character is and wants to become is a bit profound, but is also not unexpected with a family that loves each other with and without difficulty in the world and society we are all striving to create.
Ultimately it's a beautiful story that I would not have originally picked up on my own before being introduced on this site, but I am none the less very grateful to have had the chance to read and experience it.
