I was hooked from the Dear Reader note. I grew up Filipino-American and had my own problems with identity, racism, exasperating parents (grandparents, in my case), and not being 'enough' for them. I could tell right away that this book is going to resonate so much for a huge minority community, Korean or not. Each Asian-American subgroup feels many of these same issues at some point in their lives, and I love how David Yoon is hitting these topics. This is not just a book I am dying to read, this is a book I absolutely need to have in my classroom, available for every student to borrow and see this perspective, whether they've lived it or not.
