Love, and Love of Language!

I want to discuss a couple of amazing, early strands in David Yoon's novel.

First, there's the idea of 'love.' This love, to me, encompasses but is NOT limited to romantic love, young love. Frank Li might not always wear his heart on his sleeve, so to speak, especially in front of his parents. However, it's clear through his narration and actions that he has a lot of heart, and we as readers get to see him navigating a number of important relationships... the love he holds for his older sister, Hanna, the love that's kept Q in his life as his best friend. I do think Frank's big heart contributes to him being sweetly romantic, too; that characterization informs his early interactions with Brit Means.

Second, Frank seems to have this amazing love of language. It's there in his descriptions, in his chapter titles, in his turns of phrase, and - perhaps most importantly - in his unpacking of names.

I imagine I'd be sold on Yoon's writing style, his language, alone... but with that layered theme of love, too? It bear repeating. Amazing. I can't wait to read in full.

Before I conclude, a word on the book's cover... Please let this be the final cover! I think its colors are eye-catching and the script's stylization is cool! It walks that line of attention-grabbing, but not overwhelming. Also, in hindsight, the illusion of depth in the script is perfect. It previews the complex look at love (and identity?) to follow.
