Readers will find themselves thrust into the action immediately as Keralie, one of the protagonists and a thief, has a messenger in her sights and will stop at nothing to steal the package he has to deliver. I loved how the author revealed much of Keralie's backstory almost immediately, making it easy to become acquainted with a character who promises to be an engaging protagonist. As the story quickly progresses, we learn more about the other characters who will play a crucial part in this intriguing plot, and it appears that they will be as interesting and engaging as Keralie.

I adored the world building in the sample I read! Divided into four quadrants, Quadara is ruled by four queens who represent the quadrant they oversee. What I found intriguing is the idea that each quadrant has its own unique culture and society, and the Queen who represents the quadrant demonstrates the characteristics of that society. The world-building is quite unique because Scholte follows the Queens' point-of-view as the events unfold and we learn a little about the Queens' characters before they meet an untimely death.

Based on the sample I read, Four Queens by Astrid Scholte will be a riveting read. I'm looking forward to reading the whole book!
