The beginning of Four Dead Queens is definitely promising! The main character, Keralie, seems brash and bold (which I love) and eager to take risks. The complexity of the opening scene and her theft of the comm case was attention-grabbing and engaging, even though there was a bit too much immersive detail to be able to sink easily into the scene. Right off the bat, we're given a ton of information about different factions/races/peoples and it could put some readers off, especially given the perspective shift that happens in the second chapter, when we move from first person to third person perspectives as we learn about another character. Those interspersed flashes between the different perspectives of the different queens are interesting and ratchet up the level of world-building very quickly! Definitely interested in reading more of this book and can't wait for its release in February.
