First off I want to say that I think too many people have given this book unfair judgement. I found myself intrigued and wanting to know more about the characters in this book. There are four queens who each have their own section of the world that they rule over, but they are equals. Then we have our thief character.

I also want to say how gorgeous this cover is; that's what drew me in right away. For a debut novel I really liked her style. It took me a few chapters to get into the story, but once I did I had to keep reading to find out what happens. There were several things that took my by surprise in this book (The killer being one of them). I liked all of the relationships in this novel, some were surprising, but overall I think they were all very sweet. Honestly the last two sentences of the story really got me. I can't wait to see what Scholte comes up with next. I feel like this reminded me a little of the Three Dark Crowns series, overall it was a good read. I can't give it five stars though, because of how long it took for me to really get into the story. I think Corra was my favorite of the queens, I found myself connecting to her because we're the same age, but I also loved Stessa, who would do anything for her love.
