I had such high hopes for this book; unfortunately it just wasn’t for me. Generally I love ya books where everything is shown to me that happens and then slowly over time we find out the background details, but I got about 240 pages in, and then just didn’t care about the world or the main character.

I definitely sympathize with Keralie for what happened, but I don’t sympathize with the way she reacted in relation to her parents. I found myself not liking her, and couldn’t see myself liking her at any point.

As for what happens with the queens, I found myself also not caring about it. I didn’t get a mystery vibe, it didn’t feel suspenseful, because the title kinda said it all, and by the time they died, I honestly didn’t have time to care about them, which is harsh.

I went into this book totally psyched, ready for a good stand alone debut, and ended up DNFing the book with about 100 pages to go. I’m going to give it another try within the next few months to see if I like it more, but everything just fell flat. The romance felt forced, the suspense was lack luster, and I was just over it, despite being really excited about the book.

I am however excited for further books to come, hopefully they’re not as rushed as this book!
