I saw this book on lists for books to keep an eye on, and when I had a chance to read any part of it I was delighted! And I'm surprised how hooked I was just after the second chapter! I like fantasy books that dive into what is happening then and there, inserting bits of history or background as we go. This book does just that. It wasn't slow to start and I love it! The world that Astrid Scholte has created is so interesting with different quadrants producing different goods and necessities for everyone and each having their own features and customs that I want to learn more about.
After reading the chapters given, I knew I wanted to know more about the queens. They are mysterious to the citizens, and so it's like we get a peek into who they are and their inner thoughts. The character Keralie grew on my through the chapters she was in, at first I thought I had read characters like her before. But I think I like that she has a familiarity and then her own features that are unique to her background and personality. I can't wait for this to be released!
