Good, but nothing new.

This is the definition of "mediocre high fantasy". Nothing was new, nothing blew me away, but I did enjoy reading this book because I have a thing for queens, death, and mystery. Here's my full analysis:

The fantasy world that the author created was very unique and magical, but it cannot compare to the top-tier world building of Kendare Blake in her Three Dark Crowns series. I liked the concept of the "quadrants" and the queens who ruled.

The characters were bland. I will most likely not remember who Keralie and Varin are a few years from now when I reminisce about all of my favorite YA novels. The story ended the way it should have and the characters all got what they deserved.

So, this is a decent fantasy read. It took me a short amount of time to finish, but I was not in a rush to finish it since it did not blow me away. In all, this is an okay read, but there are other fantasies that are worth more of your time instead.
