** spoiler alert ** My rating: 3.5 stars.

I received an uncorrected galley of 4 Dead Queens at BookCon 2018. There were a number of things that I really enjoyed about this story mainly that it was a fantasy/science-fiction, murder mystery mash up. The world that Scholte built within this story felt unique and I curious to learn as much as I could about the different quadrants. I think that this story did a good job at keeping the reader guessing of who the murderer was and the ending was thorough and satisfying.

While I really liked the idea of the different perspectives, I found the back and forth perspectives of Keralie and the queens to be rather confusing. I think this is because the timeline is not consistent. I was confused as we see the queens murdered not only from Keralie's perspective, which would have made sense given that the comm chips were the instructions. But then we see each murder from the Queen's perspective, only to find out later that hadn't happened yet. We then see the queens murdered yet again as Keralie races around the castle trying to prevent them. I really want to like this concept, but it felt a little to messy for my taste.

Overall, I enjoyed reading this story and appreciate that I was given the opportunity to review it early.
