Astrid Scholte hit a home run with her debut novel, Four Dead Queens. As a huge fan of YA fantasy, I can confidently say that this is a dynamite new addition to the genre!

In Four Dead Queens, the fictional country of Quadara is divided into four quadrants: agrarian Archia, tech-savvy Eonia, hedonistic Ludia, and intellectual Toria. Each quadrant is ruled by a separate queen. That is, until someone decides to assassinate them one by one. Enter Keralie Corrington of Toria. She’s a thief from the wrong side of the tracks who teams up with an Eonist messenger, Varin, to try to save the queens.

I was on the edge of my seat flipping pages as fast as I could to find out what happened next. Ms. Scholte has spent a decade working on some of the most successful films of all time, and it shows. Four Dead Queens is carefully plotted, each intricate twist painstakingly considered. If you are one of those readers who has a knack for predicting plot twists, I am willing to be Four Dead Queens stumps you just as much as it stumped me!

Four Dead Queens is planned to be a standalone, but I really, really hope a sequel is published. I would love to dive back into Quadara! Thank you to Bookish First and the publisher for providing me with a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
