I really enjoyed this one! It was so fun and exciting and above all, original! This is the first YA Fantasy murder mystery that I've come across and I didn't know what to expect but I loved it! I loved the excellent world-building, the three-dimensional, flawed characters, and the twisting plot. I was kept on the edge of my seat through the entire story. Every time I thought I had everything figured out the author showed me there was get more to it. I also loved all the different points of view that the author gave us. Getting to read the story from all four queens' points of view as well as Keralie's really cleaned the story out. Keralie was a young girl that had made mistakes and spent her life running from them. I liked that she was a flawed character that was just trying to get by at the start of the story and gradually she grows into a great friend and better daugher. She learns what life is really about. The four queens also had their secrets and had made their share of mitakes. I enjoyed reading their stories just as much as I did Keralie's. I also liked that the relationship between Keralie and Varin was a bit of an enemies to friends to lovers. The author did that really well. They learned so much from each other and balanced each other out well. The world-building was exquisite and fun to imagine. This is a world I'd love to visit. Overall the story was fun and exciting(for a murder mystery) and oh-so-original! I can't wait to see what Astrid Scholte comes out with next! I highly recommend this one to anyone that enjoys YA, Fantasy, and/or murder mysteries.
