I'll be honest. Reading the synopsis provided for Four Dead Queens left me wanting. It sounded like a typical YA fantasy, romance and everything. And as I dove into this sample, there was nothing to show me that it was anything but a typical YA fantasy. Down on her luck, but snarky and bad-ass girl runs with her equally devious guy friend who's maybe a love interest. The idea of different areas producing different specific goods. Does anyone else just get serious Panem/Huger Game vibes? It just seemed very tropey, which for some is totally enjoyable. But it's just not for me.
The second chapter was also a very heavy tell-not-show data dump of the world and it's history. I don't know, I don't have much good to say on this story. It just doesn't feel very well written or original. Really not for me.
