The premise of Four Dead Queens is intriguing and the plot definitely has me wanting to read more (that last bit had me trying to turn the page). Keralie is so far a very interesting character, though I admit I have a weakness for thieves. And Mackiel has me wanting to learn more. The queens unique personalities and their relationships are well done. The good bits of this book, I’m definitely excited for.

This kind of world (where there’s both tech and super un tech) is not my favorite, though I can definitely appreciate the worldbuilding that went into this. It’s clear Scholte put a lot of thought behind each quadrant. I feel like I could grow to like it, but it was definitely jarring in the first few chapters. They mention that Eonists wear the dermasuits, which is high tech, and then you have Keralie wearing corsets and skirts. Because there was so much jumping around at first, my image of this world got a bit fuzzy. I’m willing to hold out complete judgment until I read more.

So I say four star for the moment for my current uncertainties. But the plot definitely has me pulled in.
