The world-building, from the excerpt given, along with the introduction to the characters and their individual arcs were wonderfully written. I could imagine this different world, the disparity between that of the Queens and the nations they governed, and the sheer desperation for those needing to be among the underbelly. As a picky reader, I can tell you that I was wowed by what I read and am very much intrigued to continue reading to find what Keralie sees from the chips in the comm case, and how it will affect the rest of the four divided nations. As a fantasy novel, FOUR DEAD QUEENS has every element it needs to be a fantastic adventure and I cannot wait to see how Scholte continues to blend them together---and with a cover like that, one that striking in its simplicity, I'm not worried that it'll live up to those expectations.
