Good start to a fantasy series!
(3.5 stars) FOUND is the first book in THE CONDUIT CHRONICLES by Ashley Hohenstein. I went in blind to this series, and I have to say that is the best way to go because I was constantly flipping the pages wondering what the world was going on?! And, believe me, it’s an intense and intricate world!
FOUND is a lot of world-building. We meet three different narrators: Elias, Ophelia, and Lucas. Each one gives an interesting perspective into the world. It’s to divulge much to you besides telling you that Elias is part of the magical world, Ophelia is a human thrust into this strange world, and Lucas is a wildcard we meet later, but what world does he belong to? It’s magical realism with romance and definitely intense.
I enjoyed the multiple narrators and how they built the world. I was constantly guessing, and, tbh, in the beginning, I had no idea what was going on, but I realized that was precisely how Ophelia thought, so it was okay. Once Ophelia found her way (see what I did there? 😏), the story unfolded rapidly, and I couldn’t put the last half down.
It is a big info dump at the beginning with a lot of action in the end, but if you read a lot of fantasy, you are used to that setup. I would have liked a little more evened-out pace, especially with the cliffhanger ending.
It was a good start for a fantasy series. Something different. I’m curious to see what happens rest of Ophelia’s story, especially now that we know the players and she knows what is going on - or do we? 😳
Thanks @bookishfirst for the gifted book!
Content Warnings: grief, familial death
