Needs work
The cover and description made me want to go ahead and spend my points on this book. After reading the first impression, I feel like I made a mistake. The book isn't bad, but it's not good either. Heavy descriptions on everything except the characters make the first impression confusing and awkward. The main character, Elias, is a child of....some kind of human with magic abilities? Honestly, the way he communicates is stilted and cringeworthy. Think of the old Kung Fu films with subtitles: "Ha-ha! My invisible dagger has magic and poison! You will never kill me!" The other main character, Ophelia, was at least a little more easy to understand, as a strong empath that has to maneuver through everyone's pain and inner turmoil every day of her life, and I'm sure we will discover how she fits into the story with the odd Elias at some point. Right?
