Unfortunately, I was underwhelmed by the execution of this story, because it felt a bit underdeveloped. I enjoyed the overall message of acceptance and moving on from grief as a community, but the world building was haphazard at best. This takes place in a contemporary setting with random bits of fantasy elements thrown in, such as the people from Golub having leaf marks on their wrist that pulse for some unknown reason. I would have liked to see Raf's life in Golub before he came over, in that it would have solidified the world, but we are just told information about his home country, not his experience. The characters were unmemorable, and did not develop or change much in the end, I would have liked to seen more growth, instead of them having just one sudden life decision in the end of the book. Overall, this book was more of a focus on community acceptance rather than a romance or fantasy novel, as there was too little of both, leaving me feeling a bit unsatisfied.
