Forty Words for Love is a dual POV story that follows Raf and Yas as their town begins to crumble around them. Tragedy struck Moonlight Bay, and from that moment on, the majestic pink and purple waters have never been the same. The small town relied heavily on tourist traffic to stay afloat, and with storms and the lack of majesty of the sea that once put their town on the map, all of the businesses and townspeople are struggling to survive.

The writing is strong, and the characters are likable. The romance is a slow burn. I would definitely call the book a slower read. It took me a while to really get into it, and I did skim/skip through parts to get to the meat of the story faster.

Raf and Yas are both kindhearted characters that have a lot on their plates. Both worry about letting down the people they care about and the town they love. They're best friends and they treat each other well. I just felt like it took too long to really get things going. The climax of the story was strong, and the ending was good. It just wasn't a great read for me. I can see it working for younger YA readers, but it wasn't what I would expect from a story where both protagonists have graduated high school already.

So, all in all, I'd call it an okay read. Might be worthwhile to some, but it just wasn't what I was hoping for.
