First off, I was drawn to this book by the gorgeous cover. I really love the colors and the whimsical elements. If I saw this on a shelf I’d definitely pick it up.
I’m not completely sure how I feel about this book. There were elements I really enjoyed, but the pacing and world building felt off to me. The story really dragged in parts. I felt like new characters and aspects of the story were introduced without clear explanation as to why. So much is left to the readers own interpretation.
I enjoyed the relationship between Yas and Raf. The progression was sweet. They both were dealing with a lot and had a lot to overcome.
I think readers who really enjoy magical realism with enjoy this story. I do however wish there had been more fantasy and better world building elements.
