đź’Thoughts:
This is a really thought provoking book. The author did a great job covering difficult topics, including grief, forgiveness, and incarceration. I liked how the story was told from alternating points of view. Going back and fourth between Violetta and her bother Vince. Both POVs offered so much to the story. I thought it was just as important to see how Violetta was doing as it was to see how her family was doing throughout her incarceration.

I found it interesting to think about a victim being able to pick the punishment for the perpetrator of their crime. How forgiveness and redemption play into that?! I liked the idea of the trials, but they weren’t as dystopian or scary as I thought they would be. I’m honestly not sure what exactly I was expecting, maybe more intensity I guess. Overall, the trials being up a lot of emotions. I thought the author did a great job making me feel empathy and sadness for everyone involved, not just the victim.

I definitely recommend this book to readers who enjoy YA, family dynamics, and heavy topics including death and incarceration. I also think this book would make a great buddy read or book club picks. The topic could make for some very interesting discussions.
