From the very first page you know this story is going to be heavy. Violetta is on day twenty-two at a juvenile detention center from drunk driving which results in the death of her little sister. It’s clear this is going to be tough for her to live through, especially when she finds out her family won’t forgive her and she has to participate in the Trials. I really enjoyed how this book was told in dual point of views, switching between Violetta and her brother Vince. It shows both sides of the coin that come with substance abuse, what happens when you go too far and can’t take back what you’ve done and what you have to deal with if you don’t tell anyone. Either way they are both on paths to try and free themselves from the consequences that came along with addictions. If you are looking for a story that is deep and gets you to think about the consequences that can come, then this book is for you.
