When first starting the book, I was immediately drawn in by the natural dialogue and character descriptions. It is very easy to follow and I greatly enjoyed that. I was a little confused at first with the trials, as I thought this followed our current juvenile system.

In the beginning, I also didn't care for the brother's perspective and wanted to go back to Violetta's perspective. I didn't find value in his perspective until around half way in. I found myself zoning out during his beginning chapters. But, Violetta's inner thoughts were very interesting to follow and the ending was so gut wrenching. I cannot imagine being in her shoes. I liked the ending scene when Violetta was talking about how she is not surprised that no one can forgive her. It made it seem more real when the brother didn't respond to that, but instead he said that he loved her.
