First and foremost, this is an incredibly emotionally provocative story. I cannot even begin to imagine what either of the main characters is going through, but it is a LOT. My heart breaks for the whole family, frankly, but extra for Violetta, who obviously made a terrible mistake and most definitely needs help, but also needs support more than ever.
It also provides a lot of thought provoking discussion about the "justice" system in general, which I have a feeling will be delved into much deeper, especially with Violetta resolving to find out what happened to the kid in the case that started the whole "Trials" thing. I absolutely need this book in my life and cannot wait to read the rest- I have a feeling it is going to be very, very powerful.
