The way the concept of the Trials is introduced is interesting... it's part of the mystery of the story, and although we did get some explanation by the end of the section, I'm still not quite sure what to expect. It made me want to keep reading to learn more!
I enjoy stories that are about real-world issues such as social justice but offer a speculative 'what-if' element. Violetta's situation isn't quite the same as the one she'd be facing in our present day, but the parallels are obvious. Vin's situation makes it really clear that Letta's trapped in a system that doesn't care about taking care of her so much as punishing 'badness.' I look forward to seeing how this plays out deeper into the narrative.
