Confused but intrigued

Given that so many YA books are fantasy/dystopian stories, that’s what I was expecting after reading about the Trials in the cover blurb. I wouldn’t have gone any further had I picked up the book in a bookstore. As I delved into the First Look, it seems more like present day reality than I was expecting, especially after reading Petra’s description of the Trials. But something still feels off and confusing there; is this reality or a close parallel? Was the cover blurb intentionally misleading to attract a certain audience?

On the other hand, I’m eager to find out where the story is going. The dual perspectives are intriguing, portraying the struggles of real issues that teens face and the raw and true emotions of humans in pain who are dealing with their choices.

The cover art certainly gives YA vibes (the non-fantasy kind), but despite the eye-catching colors, it’s a bit bland.
