The ending was a success - the rest? Not my favorite.
I really desperately wanted to like Followers. I think the plot set up is really interesting and I enjoy the dual perspective and dual timelines. Also working for it - Megan Angelo is a strong writer and the prose is acerbic and interesting. That said, I could not stand the characters at all. And for most of the book, it made for a really difficult reading experience.
The ending, however, to my eyes, was a real godsend. It was very smart and unexpected. The characters whom I do actively disliked were somehow redeemed at the end! The story was wrapped up fairly neatly but not in a way that was too convenient or annoying! Best of all, the ending was surprising and pretty delightful, a nice change given my feelings about the rest of the book.
In sum, Followers was not for me but in its last dying breath, it finished strong.
