For starters, I absolutely LOVED this cover. It is likely a large reason I decided to read this book in the first place.
Followers is a dystopian novel that shows potential outcomes of a world where social media/internet/technology is uncontrolled. The story fluctuates back and forth between two timelines. Orla, in 2015, and Marlow, in 2051. Orla's story is similar to many people in the current day. She is a budding blogger with a roommate who is famous on social media. Marlow lives in a time where she is constantly being recorded and everything in her life is shared to millions of followers (like Keeping Up With The Kardashians turned up a few notches). The two timelines eventually overlap and there are some surprising twists thrown in!
This book is incredibly relevant, as our society spends more and more time interacting with technology and social media. It is actually a little terrifying how easily I could see Marlow's life being normal in 2051. This could definitely be an episode of Black Mirror.
