Alternating between 2015/2016 and 2051, we see how technology and social media has influenced us. We see the effect of “the Spill”, which is an data/information terrorism attack, of which we don’t learn the details until towards the end. The vague mentions of it throughout the book, kept mystery and anticipation.
This book reminded me of a Black Mirror episode; uncomfortable science fiction/fantasy, but based so firmly in reality it’s scary. Parts also reminded me of a Jackie Collins novel... following celebrities and their paparazzi filled lives. So much fun! This book shines a spotlight on some important issues within social media... consumerism, bullying, influence on youth, privacy issues. It was an important, yet extremely entertaining read.
