Alternating points of view take us from 2015 to 2051 to explore the ways in which social media and celebrity fascination can shape us, and destroy us, in Megan Angelo's The Followers.

I love this book for the cover design and the very promising premise, but not so much for what's between the covers. I think I wanted more satire and more "Black Mirror" darkness, but instead I felt underwhelmed with the characters and story development. Unrelatable characters and a drawn out plot don't mix well.

I'm 100% down for speculative fiction themed around technology, social media, and fame obsession so I was excited when this book appeared on my radar. There were some highlights for sure, but overall I just felt let down.
