So maybe Cervantes is trying to have a comedic light touch to appeal to teenagers, but this didn't resonate with me at all. Ava and her sister Carmen come off as spoiled and self-absorbed, only Vivienne shows some concerns for others. Ava seems to be more concerned about missing her blessing from her grandmother than the fact that her grandmother is dying and is pissed at someone she runs into with her car for actually stopping at a stop sign. Not all books have to be written with likable characters, but in this case I would think it would be beneficial.
