Awesome YA Game of Thrones fantasy series, with more dragons
I absolutely loved Fireborne by Rosaria Munda. It's an awesome first installment in a new dragon-based YA fantasy series. It reminds me a lot of a less wordy Game of Thrones, but with more dragons. It has undertones of other great YA fantasy/scifis competition stories like Percy Jackson, Divergent, and Ender's Game.
There is great character building, as the narrator changes between two different dragon-riding orphans, Lee and Annie. My favorite aspect of this book so far though is the history and politics of the world Munda is building. I loved reading about the politics of the region both pre- and post- Revolution.
There's also a perfect (small) amount of romantic interests between the students. But the story mainly focuses on their training and rise to power in the regime. There were a few times I gasped outloud and couldn't put the book down even when I was called to dinner. I'm already really looking forward to the second book in this Aurelian Cycle series. I definitely recommend Fireborne to anyone who enjoys this genre.
