This book is a gem! Not only would teenage me have loved Fireborne by Rosaria Munda, but adult me was immersed wholly in the young adult fantasy. Although the tropes are what one would expect—hidden identity, birthright vs meritocracy, children forced by circumstance into adult roles, dragons, budding romance and powerful friendships—this story recasts them in fresh and inspired ways.

The sign of a superb, well-written book is one where I become completely immersed in the fantasy world and my metacognition (awareness of my thinking) stills. Moreover, I cease from scrutinizing word choice, sentence construction, character building, etc., and become absorbed by the narrative. In retrospect, I understand that the book is so meticulously crafted that I don’t need to analyze the writing. The series Game of Thrones and Red Rising both fit that definition and now I have another book to add to my list of absolute favorites: Fireborne. Without reservation, I recommend this book, and I believe we will join the queue of those waiting on tenterhooks for the next novel in the series.
