After admiring the cover that reminded me of the Red Rising series, I delved into this gem of an excerpt. Although the plot triggered memories of reading the Anne McCaffrey and Tamora Pierce series as a teenager, I quickly became engaged with in the plot and characters. I am eager to read the whole book and see what happens with the well-developed and complex characters.
