Lee was 8 year old, when he lost his family and his family’s title at beginning of revolution. 9 years later with the Firstrider Tournament Lee is riding to regain the lost title and respect, a boy who was born to rule. I liked Lee being a born dragonrider, confident, calm, and excellent at flying, things came easily for him. He was never haughty about it in fact the opposite, very supportive and good friend.
Annie never got appreciation or praise being a commoner. She was anxious, timid, worrying girl but in the air her spirit soared with her dragon. She could make a history by winning the position of Fourth order.
First person narrative from Lee and Annie’s perspective. Two main characters both fighting for name and respect with different reasons made the tournament and the beginning really exciting. From the very first chapter I didn’t like Annie being paired with Duck. I have a feeling this is going to be complex later.
I liked main characters and other secondary characters participating in the tournament.
What I loved most was, World building. Callipolis and its politics, revolutions and classes among people was so interesting. We are introduced to world from the very beginning and as I read more it made much more sense.
I can’t wait to read more. To know who finally wins the tournament, what politics the new government plays?
Overall, intriguing YA Fantasy with wonderful world-building.
