I loved the first look and couldn't wait to pick up where I left off, before I realized how complicated this book is. Erin French takes us back to her childhood and the start of her love affair with food when her father purchases a family diner. Fast forward to the rest of her life story, surprise pregnancy, giving up college, single mother, etc. Then she meets the man that was supposed to be her anchor, and turned out to be anything but. From that point on it seemed like another author had taken over and was writing the story. Very emotional situation, but the description was lacking in emotion to me, almost disconnected. Either the author is a genius that conveyed what she felt perfectly in her writing, or had to dial back on the actual emotion involved in the story. I'm not sure which, just wasn't feeling it. So I have to say that I liked this memoir, since it's very solidly written and I'm a sucker for food stuff, but I didn't love it.
