I would actually give 3.5 stars. Erin French is a chef and owner of The Lost Kitchen in Maine. This memoir details her life growing up in a small town, becoming a single mother, and her struggles to overcome odds that seem stacked against her. I had not heard of the author or her restaurant before reading this book which I think would have made me connect with the story a little bit more. Her childhood and adult life definitely contained challenges and significant struggles but in the end she was able to create something wonderful and fulfilling. I did enjoy how the author didn't try to sugarcoat any of the things she went through and you really got a sense of her feelings. The writing was beautiful and descriptive although at times it was repetitive. This is definitely a book I would not likely had found except through BookishFirst and I am glad that I did.
