Erin French might make her living in the kitchen but she certainly knows how to rule with words. Her writing is immersive, letting you get lost in the sights, smells, tastes, and sounds of a life in the restaurant business.

Though her story is intensely personal, I believe her themes of trauma, healing, and ultimately redemption will speak to many. There are dark themes but they are handled graciously in the portion I read and I imagine that will continue throughout the book.

Erin French will be getting lots of buzz through her connection with the Gaines family network Magnolia, but she has an important story to tell in her own right. While there may be crossover between "Fixer Upper" fans and Erin's story, reader's should know that this is a slow paced, indulgent read, more of a five course meal than a quick lunch.

There is a wide market for more stories like this and you can easily turn this into a themed book group book.
