Erin grew up in the tiny town of Freedom, where she and her sister ran through the fields of their farm and were a constant presence in their fathers diner. Erin always felt an affinity for food and the way it made people feel. At her father's side she learned all the basics of cooking that would form a lifelong love of the culinary arts, and show her the happiness it could bring herself and others. This is Erin's story of growing up, having a child that reroutes her life plan, and finding a new path that helps her find her true self. With many ups and downs, Erin's journey is heartbreaking and inspiring.

Finding Freedom was a wonderful tale of life's hardships, and realizing her true calling in life. I truly love a story where a person perseveres through a rough and unforgiving life, to realize their self worth and find peace within themselves. Erin shows all of her strengths and weaknesses to the world in this memoir, all the dark times and the light that kept her going.

I truly enjoyed reading Erin's story. There were a few places where I felt she did close up and skim over key parts, and I felt like I missed out on truly getting the full spectrum of her feelings because of it. It was written in a somewhat detached style, which might be because of how personal it all is. The detail to the descriptions in cooking were where I got the most insight into her real emotions fully. You can tell how much of her heart really goes into everything she creates. While sometimes I had a hard time fully grasping her feelings during events, others I felt like I was right there in her shoes.

Overall a deeply emotional book, showing the strength of a woman who had to fight for everything she has, and in turn only wants to give back to others the best way she knows how. Such an inspiring story.
