First off, I loved the cover! Great contrast between the black background and huge vibrant bouquet, really eye catching.
Erin French does a fantastic job at telling her reader how she was introduced to cooking and the service industry. This book is full of gorgeous descriptions of delicious meals so don’t be surprised if you find yourself hungry or reaching for a treat while reading. Her story is so compelling, especially when she draws parallels between her failed marriage, her parents marriage and her troubled relationship with her father. I really respect her for putting it all out in the open considering that she’s trying to run a successful restaurant. Reading this book only makes me want to score a coveted reservation in the years to come.
The only missing aspect that could have bumped this memoir up to five starts was a deeper exploration of her adult relationship with her sister. They clearly each have a difficult past and Nina weaves in and out of the book unevenly, sometimes contributing to major events and then completely disappearing from the narrative. It left me wanting to know more, and if Nina is still involved with the Lost Kitchen or otherwise in Erin’s life.
