Sucks you in!
I am surprised at how much I ended up liking this! I'm not normally one to like memoirs but French's lyrical storytelling makes this almost more like a novel. Her beautiful depictions of a childhood in rural Maine combine the rosy optimism of youth, with the harsh, and sometimes sad, realities of adulthood.
The jacket cover doesn't seem to match the story, as a still life of fruit does not capture the nuanced way French describes her upbringing. Still, give this one a try!
