The first couple chapters really set the time and place that Erin grew up in. I could really feel, taste and smell the environment as she describes it.

"I remember marveling at the thin plumes of smoke wafting from
their lips and ashtrays, up toward the asbestos drop ceiling yellowed
with nicotine stains, the pattern mimicking the shape of the breakfast
counter below, representing years of loyal regular patrons."

The memory of her father so happy in their Diner is one that has shaped Erin's life and who she wants to be and what she wants to do. I am very excited to read more about Erin's life and the ups and downs that she goes through to find her dreams.
