“Sometimes when you’re on the wrong path, it can feel like being cursed.”

Fairy Godmothers, Inc. is a romance novel with a touch of magic. It checks the box on both fake relationship and second chance romance tropes.

Petunia, Bluebonnet and Jonquil Blossom are three sister fairy godmothers who are losing their magic. It’s powered by love so they decide to stage a fake wedding in their hometown of Ever After to make it a destination wedding locale and a permanent source of magic renewal. The lucky faux bride and groom? Ex-loves and current enemies Lucky and Ransom.

Lucky is cursed with bad luck. Her one true love, billionaire chocolate magnate Ransom, couldn’t, ahem, seal the deal with her due to several outrageous instances of bad luck—tornado blowing the roof off just one room, wasps attacking, etc. And then there was the time when Ransom gained his lifelong nickname at the hands of an immature and disappointed Lucky. She dubbed him, “The Boy Who Missed.”

So the book starts off fairly ridiculously because you know they hate each other and you know only that things didn’t work out because he tried to consummate the relationship in...look, you’re going to have to figure that one out on your own. I’ve said enough.

The entire book is a bit like sighing and saying, “really?” for four hours straight. It is redeemed with the two characters saving themselves, as it were. It’s a good message and they even indoctrinate her best friend’s kids with the message that no one is going to save you. But the book is on the cutesy side and there is very little steam. I don’t think it will do it for closed door sorts either given the references throughout to accidental anal sex.

I did appreciate the deep discussion of sugary treats, including chocolate, cookies, cake, pastries and ice cream sodas. It’s a quirky book that will find an audience with those who appreciate fantasy themes in their romance novels.
