Every Last Fear by Alex Finlay totally exceeded my expectations! Once I read the book description and found out that the author is from DC (like I am), I knew I had to read the book. I actually read the book a week ago but wanted to wait to post a review so I could digest everything - there's a lot to unload! That being said, I think this may be one of my most favorite reads this year!

The book had me hooked from the very first page. The book starts off with the discovery of the bodies of an American family in Tulum, Mexico. The only two survivors are the family's college-aged son, Matt Pine (who was at school at the time), and his older brother, Danny Pine, who incidentally is in prison for a murder that he supposedly did not commit. The Pine family, who are from a small Nebraska town, gained notoriety ever since a true crime documentary of Danny's murder case was released. The ever-supportive father, Eric Pine, has made it a mission to prove his son's innocence - with much of his efforts detailed in the documentary. Now with the family gone, Matt sets out to determine why his family was in Mexico and who murdered his family. Moreover, is his family's murder connected to Danny's murder case?

The plot was brilliantly executed and I love that there's absolutely no ambiguity as to what events occurred and who was involved. The book is written in multiple POVs with two different timelines: one before the family's murder and one after + some additional flashbacks.

If you're looking for a gritty, twisty, "unputdownable" murder mystery within another murder mystery, then this is it! Get ready for a wild ride! Fans of Harlan Coben and Lisa Jewell will enjoy this book. Make sure you put this on your wishlist - you won't be disappointed!

Every Last Fear is due to be published oh March 2, 2021 by Minotaur Books.

Many thanks to BookishFirst, Minotaur Books (via St. Martin's Press) and Alex Finlay for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
